SEEING DOUBLE | COACHELLA

As much as it hurts me to say this, these images are not my own and I have not yet had the chance to visit the music-worshipers and sun-seekers paradise, that is Coachella.
Next year though, it's happening.

The amount of envious pictures that have been crawling all over my social pages have been mainly style based, so these little snaps were welcomingly refreshing. It's the work of artist Phillip K Smith, featuring large mirrored and LED structures, fully exposing the hypnotic rhythm of the Coachella vibe.
The reflective structures, like the rest of the chaotic crowd, truly come alive at night, creating dynamic visuals against the Colorado desert backdrop. See you next year Cali.

From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk

We were casually cycling round Golden Gate park (as you do) when we came across the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, de Young. Oh and what happened to be exhibiting there? Nothing other than the famous collection of Jean Paul Gaultier (only around till august!), so I dragged the boys in for a mooch around...

Of course the renowned nautical sailor stripes of Gaultiers work appeared

The exhibition was beautifully laid out- providing a clear route for the viewer. Manipulating technology within the show was the use of projected images of faces onto the manequins from the machines you can see above.

As you can see below- Jean Paul Gaultier himself. The next surprise being that some of the manequins began to talk- allowing to provide brief history on an outfit.

Worn by Kylie Minogue in her 'Like a Drug' Video for the X2008 tour.
There were re-occurring celebrities that creatively influenced and inspired the designers work, such as the fearless Madonna and eccentric Lady Gaga

'The first fetish I did was the corset. That was because of my Grandmother'- Jean Paul Gaultier

From elegant femininity...

To eccentrically extravagant...

To theatrical excess...

'Except for the medieval codpiece and the bra, garments never had a gender' -Gaultier

There was also a fantastic wall decorated with bright punky art to match one of the collections. For me, the exhibition was truly successful  because each section showcased the garments in a beautiful and of course Gaultier-esque way. The lavish evening dresses travelled round on a moving platform- each appearing in a spotlight at the end as if on a catwalk.

This garment was by far my favourite. The metal corset represents Gaultier at his best and the feather boar detail adding the feminine excess that often appears in his work. Sexy, feminine, dominating and attention demanding- all words that Gaultier's work provoke.

The exhibition was genius and I recommend anyone who is interested in his work (and if your not, you will be after seeing this) to go and see it, below are the tour dates:

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, de Young
March 24 - August 19, 2012

Fundación Mapfre - Instituto de Cultura, Madrid
September 26 - November 18, 2012

Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Netherlands
February 9 - May 12, 2013

 An absolute MUST.

Pimped up

I'm heading on a Western coast road trip this summer with my dad and brother, San Francisco to LA... might have to suggest this for our ride...I might get lucky?

Dream on? I think so. This 180 sq ft. 1969 Airstream is the ultimate travelling machine. Interior designer Rachel Horn has re-invented the inside to a luxurious Moroccan theme, with lavish textiles, air-conditioning and even a cappuccino machine.

Check out more of her interior work Here- Old World style with Modern luxury

Who knows, maybe I will nab a ride off her whilst we slum it out hitchhiking. Fingers crossed.

British Weather

Now we can experience the delightful British weather without getting wet...

Burberry launched a 360 digital experience, marking the birth of 'Burberry World Live' for the new store opening in Taipei. Guests are part of the interactive cylindrical space, featuring live music from British musician Tom Odell, film and glittering rain.
Created by the brands creative director Christopher Bailey who also announced that the event will appear in Chicago, Hong-Kong and London later this year... so watch out for it on the Burberry fb page.

NEED to get on that guest list...looks too good - take a peek here
