We were casually cycling round Golden Gate park (as you do) when we came across the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, de Young. Oh and what happened to be exhibiting there? Nothing other than the famous collection of Jean Paul Gaultier (only around till august!), so I dragged the boys in for a mooch around...
Of course the renowned nautical sailor stripes of Gaultiers work appeared
The exhibition was beautifully laid out- providing a clear route for the viewer. Manipulating technology within the show was the use of projected images of faces onto the manequins from the machines you can see above.
As you can see below- Jean Paul Gaultier himself. The next surprise being that some of the manequins began to talk- allowing to provide brief history on an outfit.

There were re-occurring celebrities that creatively influenced and inspired the designers work, such as the fearless Madonna and eccentric Lady Gaga

There was also a fantastic wall decorated with bright punky art to match one of the collections. For me, the exhibition was truly successful because each section showcased the garments in a beautiful and of course Gaultier-esque way. The lavish evening dresses travelled round on a moving platform- each appearing in a spotlight at the end as if on a catwalk.
This garment was by far my favourite. The metal corset represents Gaultier at his best and the feather boar detail adding the feminine excess that often appears in his work. Sexy, feminine, dominating and attention demanding- all words that Gaultier's work provoke.
The exhibition was genius and I recommend anyone who is interested in his work (and if your not, you will be after seeing this) to go and see it, below are the tour dates:
